Height of 10-18m, trunk erect, little branched grayish bark.

Ramagem short and horizontal, usually reddish forming canopies open.

Inflorescence with dark red flowers. Dehiscent fruits and woody, oval and red.

Multiplication is by seed, whose production is small in the tropics of Brazil, where it is cultivated.

Tree with ornamental features is suitable for growing in parks and large gardens.

Typically tropical plant, has no proper development in southern Brazil.

The seeds are used in cooking oil and are edible, resembling cocoa.
