Size ranges from 10 to 18 meters.
Straight trunk and branches with thorns. Displays deciduous foliage, with compound leaves and trifoliate leaflets glabrous. It blooms in August and September, with the plant usually stripped of foliage with red flowers and much visited by hummingbirds, parakeets and parrots that feed on its nectar.
Rapid growth.
Species highly ornamental, especially when in bloom, because its brightness and its color are hardly found in other species of Erythrina. Used in landscaping areas and in medium to large squares and avenues of Minas Gerais and São Paulo.
